The Employee Evaluation Report (Jurgensen, 1950) is a multi-item rating scale designed to assess an employee’s overall job success. It was developed in a study that compared its effectiveness to rank order merit ratings. The scale consists of four Likert-type items and two open-answer items, which were carefully constructed to ensure their diversity and avoid redundancy.
During the development process, three key factors were considered:
- Item Wording: The items were worded in a way that obscured their identicalness, preventing raters from automatically selecting the same category for each item.
- Rating Categories: A varying number of rating categories were provided to discourage raters from consistently checking the same category for every item, ensuring a more nuanced evaluation.
- Open-Ended Questions: Two open-ended questions were included to allow for more in-depth feedback on the employee’s strengths and weaknesses.
To establish the reliability and consistency of the Employee Evaluation Report, a sample of supervisors completed the scale for several employees. The results of this analysis demonstrated the scale’s reliability in terms of item reliability, item consistency, and overall scale reliability.
Test Format:
Responses are provided using 4- 7-point Likert-type scales (4 items) and an open-answer format (2 items).
