| Description | The Ego Identity Scale (EIS; Rasmussen, 1964) was devised as a technique for investigating Erikson’s concept of ego identity. It consists of 72 statements reflecting the first six psychosocial crisis stages identified by Erikson. Initially, 144 items were developed, with 136 being created specifically for this scale and 8 selected from personality tests. Two preliminary forms of the scale were tested with Navy recruits, and an item analysis was conducted to eliminate weak items. The final form showed high reliability, with correlation coefficients of .849 and .851 using the Spearman-Brown prophecy formula. |
