Adolescent Assertiveness Assessment Scale

Adolescent Assertiveness Assessment Scale

CategoryDetails
DescriptionThe Adolescent Assertiveness Assessment Scale (AAA-S; de Lima et al., 2024) was developed to measure adolescents’ assertiveness skills. The process of creating the items for the AAA-S began with an exploratory qualitative study using the focus group technique. Based on feedback from participants and the operational definition of assertiveness and its subclasses (Del Prette & Del Prette, 2017), the initial version of the AAA-S consisted of 80 items reflecting various situations indicative of the subclasses of assertiveness. Data were collected from adolescents aged 12 to 15 years. The final measure, comprising 20 items, demonstrated both content and semantic validity. Further research is needed to verify the reliability of the proposed instrument and its factorial validity.

ReliabilityNo reliability indicated.
ValidityContent validity: The CVCt was .97 and the CVCi coefficient was > .80, with the overall average ranging from .92 to .99 for each judge’s assessment. Semantic validity: Considering median scores > 2.5 for high comprehension indices, the results showed a general comprehensibility of the scale at 86.4%. A moderate and partially significant correlation was also observed between age and the level of comprehensibility of the adolescents at this stage (r = 0.41, p = 0.05).
