Authenticity refers to the positive quality of an individual exhibiting their most genuine and core self without barriers in their daily work and life. Employee authenticity is the same concept applied specifically to employees in the workplace.

Purpose
Research indicates that after controlling for personality and demographic variables, employee authenticity predicts well-being and work outcomes with an average predictive power of 11%. Furthermore, employees with higher levels of authenticity are more willing to express their views when faced with workplace challenges and are less likely to remain silent.

Administration Method and Scoring
The Individual Authenticity Measure at Work (IAM Work), developed by van den Bosch and Taris in 2014 based on the research of Wood et al., consists of two versions containing 21 items and 12 items. It is composed of three factors: 真实的生活 (Genuine Living), 自我异化 (Self-Alienation), and 接受外部影响 (Acceptance of External Influence). The scoring uses a Likert scale ranging from 1 (very uncharacteristic) to 7 (very characteristic).
Reliability and Validity
The Chinese version of IAM Work has a Cronbach’s α coefficient of 0.92 for the total scale. The coefficients for the factors of Genuine Living, Self-Alienation, and Acceptance of External Influence are 0.90, 0.93, and 0.91, respectively. The shortened version’s coefficients are 0.89, 0.83, and 0.92, 0.92, indicating good reliability.
