Evaluation Form of Love Resources for Individual – Chinese Version

Description

Marriage is a legal, moral, and psychological contract formed between individuals of different sexes, aimed at more effectively meeting their diverse needs. The satisfaction of these needs is the fundamental driving force behind the existence of marriage. Human marriage encompasses three layers of relationships: the first is a sexual partnership, which has persisted from prehistoric times to the present; the second is an economic cooperative relationship, where both parties utilize their combined resources to manage a household, including raising children and acquiring living and production materials through division of labor; the third is a spiritual friendship, enabling effective communication and emotional exchange between the partners. Thus, individuals in a marriage can fulfill not only physiological needs (primarily sexual) but also material needs (such as economic security, housing, and mutual care), as well as emotional needs such as love, attachment, emotional communication, intellectual exchange, and entertainment. Naturally, the emphasis on, and degree of satisfaction of, these needs varies across different eras of marriage. A happy marriage is one that is reasonably matched, where the rationality of this matching depends on whether both parties adhere to the two matching principles of marriage: first, whether the resource conditions related to the marriage of both parties are equivalent, i.e., the dimension of equivalence (等价性维度); second, whether the marriage characteristics of both parties are compatible, i.e., the dimension of fit (契合性维度). The combination of marriage includes both homogeneous aspects and heterogeneous aspects. If the equivalence of marriage is a condition for stability, then the fit of the marriage is a necessary condition for fulfillment. Fit refers to whether the physiological, psychological, social, and value orientation matches of both spouses are reasonable. If there is disharmony or dissatisfaction in the couple’s sexual physiology, the foundation of marriage will be unstable; if the personality traits of the couple are not compatible, they cannot form positive interactions, leading to painful experiences; if there is a lack of alignment in interests, hobbies, attitudes, and other values, frequent and trivial conflicts will arise, affecting the degree of marital satisfaction.
