Authenticity Scale – Chinese Version

Description

The concept of Individual Authenticity has its roots in Ancient Greece, where philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle discussed the theme of “Know Yourself.” In modern psychology, schools like psychoanalysis and humanistic psychology emphasize the importance of individual authenticity in understanding happiness (Baumeister, 2019). However, scholars have different emphases in their interpretations of individual authenticity. The following are definitions from various scholars.

Administration Method and Scoring

The Authenticity Scale, developed by Wood et al. (2008), measures individual authenticity across three dimensions: 自我疏离 (Self-Alienation), 真实的生活 (Authentic Living), and 接受外部影响 (Acceptance of External Influences). The scale contains a total of 12 items, with four items per dimension. It uses a 7-point Likert scale, with reverse scoring applied to items corresponding to Acceptance of External Influences and Self-Alienation. A higher total score indicates greater individual authenticity.

Reliability and Validity

The Cronbach’s α coefficient for the authenticity scale in this study is 0.898.
