Cooperative Behavior Operating Procedures – Chinese Version

Description

The research emphasizes that both common goals and mutual coordination among individuals are essential elements for collaboration, as well as conditions for cooperation to emerge and be sustained. Based on this concept, Hu Shule defined cooperation behavior in his study as a social activity in which two or more individuals voluntarily unite to achieve a common goal, coordinating and aligning their words and actions, ultimately satisfying individual interests.

Administration Method and Scoring

The cooperation behavior is operationally defined as the choice of a red card in a modified version of the classic Prisoner’s Dilemma game. The game involves two players who select between two cards: one red (hearts or diamonds) representing cooperation and one black (spades or clubs) representing competition. The game is played for a total of 18 rounds, split into 6 rounds per group, recording the color of the cards chosen by both the participant and their partner. The scoring rules are as follows:
– If both players choose a red card, each receives 3 points.
– If one player chooses a red card and the other a black card, the player with the red card earns 1 point while the black card player earns 4 points.
– If both players choose black cards, each earns 0 points.
The aim is for the participant to accumulate a high score within the group, with a higher score indicating more cooperation.
