TYPE III CELL

a form of taste cell which, whenever observed by electron microscopy, is alike to a type II cell but has dense-cored vesicles in its basal area. Type III cells consist of fifteen percent of the cells in a taste bud; they consist of serotonin and acetylcholine for peripheral nerve fiber activation.

TYPE III CELL: “Type III cells are commonly referred to as intermediate cells.”
