De PPVT-III-NL is een diagnostisch instrument dat een domein van de taalontwikkeling (de receptieve woordenschat) test door het meten van het begrip van gesproken woorden. De PPVT-III-NL omvat 204 testplaten met telkens 4 afbeeldingen. De proefpersoon kiest de juiste afbeelding bij een mondeling aangeboden woord. De PPVT-III-NL is dus een multiple choice-, oftewel meerkeuzetest.
