TYPE IV CELL

a form of cell presumed to be a stem cell for the cultivation of taste cells. Type IV cells consist of five percent of the cells in a taste bud and are restricted to its basal lamina. These cells have no receptor operative, having neither access to the taste pore or peripheral nerve fiber synapses.
