TYPE II CELL

a form of taste cell which is electron-lucent, that being, it seems light whenever observed by electron microscopy. Type II cells consists of twenty percent of the cells in a taste bud. They are bigger than Type I cells, although their volume comes from width instead of length. They send short, blunt microvilli via the taste pore to sample the chemical surroundings
