| Description | The Dimensions of Religious Ideology (Putney & Middleton, 1961) measures 4 dimensions of Christian religious ideology: orthodoxy, fanaticism, importance to the self-concept, and consciousness of ambivalence concerning the belief. To differentiate these concepts, Likert-type scales were constructed, resulting in 3 scales of 6 questions and 1 single-question scale. Each item is scored on a 7-point response scale (7 = strong agreement, 1 = strong disagreement). The questionnaire was administered to 1200 Christian college students. The four dimensions were found to be related to personality characteristics like authoritarianism, status concern, and conservatism, as well as social characteristics such as region of residence, size of community, and sex. |
