The DAS consists of 24 items and can be administered in 15 minutes using a 5-point response format (Anchors: Strongly Agree, Agree, Uncertain, Disagree, Strongly Disagree). Split-half reliabilities reported by Dean (1961) are: .78 for total alienation, .78 for powerlessness, .73 for normlessness, and .84 for social isolation. The total alienation scale reliability is corrected at .78. Calabrese and Schumer (1986) found no significant relationship between DAS scores and grade point averages. |
