Champion Behaviors Scale

Champion Behaviors Scale

Abstract

The Champion Behaviors Scale (Ma, Tellegen, & Sanders, 2023), also known as the Program Advocacy Scale, was developed to assess parenting practitioners’ engagement in both public and personal champion behaviors. Its content was established through discussions among project members, including professionals with extensive experience in the field. This 13-item instrument was subsequently evaluated using a sample of practitioners trained in the Triple P—Positive Parenting Program. The development and evaluation included factor analysis and reliability assessments of the items.

Purpose

The Champion Behaviors Scale aims to provide insight into the extent and range of champion behaviors exhibited by practitioners when promoting an evidence-based parenting program.

Validity

No data is Available.

Reliability

Internal Consistency: Both the Public champion behavior and Personal champion behavior subscales demonstrated acceptable to good internal consistency, with alpha coefficients of 0.74 and 0.83, respectively.

Factor Analysis

Exploratory Factor Analysis: Both Scree plots and Kaiser’s criterion (eigenvalues greater than one) indicated a two-factor structure for the scale. All 13 items were retained in the final model, with the two-factor structure accounting for 42% of the total variance.
Confirmatory Factor Analysis: Initial results were poor. A modification was applied, allowing the error terms of two similar items (item three and item four) to correlate. Following this modification, the final model demonstrated an adequate fit to the data: 𝜒² (63) = 270.84, p < 0.001, CFI = 0.914, SRMR = 0.061, RMSEA = 0.070 [90% CI: 0.061–0.078].

Instrument: Champion Behaviors Scale

Test Type: Original Inventory/Questionnaire.
Format: Responses are made on a 4-point Likert scale ranging from 0 (Does not apply to me at all) to 3 (Definitely applies to me). Subscale scores are created by averaging these responses.
Language Available: English.
Population Group: Human (Male and Female).
Age Group: Adulthood (18 years & older).
Population Details: The study participants were practitioners located in Australia, who were trained to deliver an evidence-based parenting program.
Test Methodology: Test Reliability; Internal Consistency; Factor Analysis; Confirmatory Factor Analysis; Exploratory Factor Analysis.
