Description
As society progresses, individuals continuously pursue a higher quality of life, increasingly focusing on obtaining a positive self-attitude, self-development, and self-realization, which refers to achieving positive psychological well-being. Positive psychological well-being complements and advances traditional psychological health. While traditional psychological health views individuals without psychological problems as healthy, positive psychological well-being shifts the focus toward discovering and nurturing positive qualities in individuals. It argues that merely eliminating various psychological disorders does not equate to psychological health; psychological health also encompasses the emergence and enhancement of positive traits and strengths. This concept plays a significant role in promoting people’s happiness and a better quality of life.

Purpose
The purpose is to develop a measurement tool that directly assesses positive psychological well-being, moving beyond traditional psychological health evaluations which often focus on diagnosing mental illness.
Test Year
The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well-being Scale (WEMWBS) was developed by Tennant et al. in 2006.
Administration Method and Scoring
WEMWBS consists of 14 items, with responses ranging from “从不” (Never), “很少” (Rarely), “有时” (Sometimes), “经常” (Often), to “总是” (Always), scored as 1 to 5 respectively. The total score from the 14 items reflects the respondent’s overall psychological well-being, with higher scores indicating better health.
Reliability and Validity
The WEMWBS has shown good validity and reliability in studies involving the elderly (Liu Yongchuang et al., 2016) and middle school students (Zhao Bihua et al., 2019).
Factors and Subscales
WEMWBS integrates three aspects that reflect psychological well-being: positive emotions, positive psychological functioning, and social relationship satisfaction. This aligns well with Keyes’ division of positive psychological health into emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
