Reactive-Proactive Aggression Questionnaire – Chinese Version

Description

Increasingly, violent behavior among adolescents has drawn widespread attention from all sectors of society. Current research typically focuses more on aggressive behavior and its destructive consequences rather than the underlying causes. Investigating the intrinsic motivations of aggressors can deepen our understanding of the origins of such behaviors and provide effective evidence for preventing criminal actions. Previous studies have identified two distinct types of aggressive motivation: one where the aggressor intentionally attacks others to achieve personal goals, and another where aggression is exhibited only in response to bullying or attacks. Dodge and Coie proposed the concepts of reactive aggression and proactive aggression based on different triggers of aggression.

Administration Method and Scoring

The Reactive-Proactive Aggression Questionnaire (RPQ), developed by Raine et al., was translated by Zhang Wanli et al. and administered to university students to check for reliability and validity. The total α coefficient of the questionnaire was 0.86, with sub-scales for reactive aggression and proactive aggression scoring 0.80 and 0.83 respectively.

Reliability and Validity

The reliability and validity of the RPQ have been established through a pilot test among university students, resulting in an overall α coefficient of 0.86.
