Description

The attitude of adolescents towards sexuality is a crucial basis for sexual health. It influences sexual behavior and has a direct impact on future sexual mental health, satisfaction with sexual life, and the occurrence of sexual dysfunction and sexually transmitted diseases. The Chinese version of the Attitude Toward Sexuality Scale (ATSS), revised by Chen Yuning et al. in 2013, is used to measure adolescents’ general attitudes toward sexuality.

Administration Method and Scoring

The scale consists of 13 items, using a 5-point Likert scoring system:
1 = Strongly Disagree (强烈不同意)
2 = Somewhat Disagree (有些不同意)
3 = Neutral (中立)
4 = Somewhat Agree (有点同意)
5 = Strongly Agree (强烈同意)

Items 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 13 are reverse scored. The total score ranges from 13 to 65, with a higher score indicating a more open attitude toward sexuality and a lower score indicating a more conservative attitude toward sexuality.

Reliability and Validity

The Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of the scale is 0.72, and the test-retest reliability is 0.86.
