Adolescent Active Health Behavior Scale – Chinese Version

Description

The adolescent period is a crucial transition phase from childhood to adulthood, and health-related issues during this time can directly affect the health of individuals in both adolescence and adulthood. In recent years, the overall trend of childhood and adolescent obesity in China has been on the rise. By 2025, it is projected that there will be 206 million children and adolescents aged 5 to 19 who are obese, and by 2030, this number will increase to 254 million. The “2022 National Blue Book on Depression” indicates that individuals under 18 account for 30.28% of the depression population. However, research shows that there is limited understanding of youth health behavior issues in various countries and regions, with some problems even being overlooked. This includes unhealthy dietary habits, low physical activity levels, substance abuse, risky sexual behaviors, and problematic social media use.

Purpose

The purpose of the study was to develop a scale to measure adolescents’ active health behaviors, allowing for better understanding and intervention in youth health issues.

Test Year

2024

Administration Method and Scoring

The Adolescents Active Health Behavior Scale (AAHBS) was compiled using a 5-point Likert scale scoring method, where the responses are rated as “从不 (Never), 很少 (Rarely), 有时 (Sometimes), 经常 (Often), 总是 (Always)” corresponding to scores of 1 to 5, respectively. A higher score indicates a higher level of active health behaviors among adolescents.

Reliability and Validity

The scale demonstrates good reliability and validity, with a Cronbach’s α coefficient of 0.946 and a split-half reliability of 0.847.

Factors and Subscales

The scale includes five dimensions:
– 健康责任 (Health Responsibility)
– 体育活动 (Physical Activity)
– 营养膳食 (Nutritional Diet)
– 精神心理 (Mental and Psychological)
– 节制自律 (Self-Discipline)
