De ScreeLing screent op afatische stoornissen op drie linguïstische niveaus: semantiek (woordbetekenis), fonologie (klankherkenning) en syntaxis (zinsstructuur). De test kan al in de eerste week na een beroerte of hersentrauma worden afgenomen, waardoor snel met gerichte therapie kan worden gestart en kan worden ingespeeld op het natuurlijke herstel van de neurale circuits. Daarnaast kan de test herstelpatronen en het effect van therapie in kaart brengen in de eerste drie maanden na het ontstaan van het hersenletsel en in het chronische stadium. De test is aan het bed afneembaar.
