De CELF-5-NL diagnosticeert taal-en communicatieproblemen bij kinderen en jongeren. Naast afname op papier zoals bij de CELF-4, is ook een digitale afname mogelijk. De zwakke kanten op taal- en communicatiegebied worden vastgesteld, waarna aanbevelingen voor interventie worden gedaan. De receptieve en expressieve taal wordt beoordeeld (op inhoud, vorm en gebruik) a.d.h.v. 5 taaldomeinen: morfologie, syntaxis, semantiek, fonologie en pragmatiek.
