Description
According to the “2022 Survey Report on the Psychological Health of Adolescents,” approximately 14.8% of adolescents are at different levels of risk for depression, with 4.0% categorized as being at high risk for severe depression. An epidemiological survey involving 17,524 Chinese children and adolescents indicates that the prevalence of any mental disorder among those aged 6 to 16 is as high as 17.5%. Moreover, individuals in puberty commonly face issues such as emotional regulation, academic adjustment, interpersonal relationships, and improper internet use. The concept of positive mental health has gained widespread recognition globally. The World Health Organization has previously stated that health should be defined as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Compared to a binary disease diagnosis approach, measures that focus on good social adaptation have shown higher sensitivity in practice. For instance, a study conducted in Australia found that when assessing adolescents’ mental health through a disease diagnostic approach, about 14% were identified as having mental health issues. However, when researchers adopted a positive social adaptation perspective in their assessments, approximately 46% of adolescents reported feeling insufficiently confident, 56% indicated difficulties in social adaptation, and another 40% expressed concerns about not performing well.
