A basal cell, also known as keratinocyte, is located in the innermost layer of the outer skin or other kinds of thin tissues in the outer layers of the body’s surfaces. Basal cells are round in shape and ultimately flatten and move up and become squamous cells (flat cell that look like fish scales) to replace dead skin cells.
