BASAL METABOLISM

n. minimum amount of energy required to sustain life in a body which is at rest. This includes all vital functions but excludes digestion and thermoregulation. Also known as basal metabolic rate (BMR), it is expressed in terms of calories (or kilojoules) of energy expended by the body for every kilogram of weight or every square meter of surface area per hour.

BASAL METABOLISM: “The more you improve your oxygen intake, the better you allow your basal metabolism to function down to the cellular level.”
