The Sociality Inventory (Brody, 1950) was developed to assess the extent of participation in various home duties and in individual and group activities prior to college entry in college students living in a dormitory residence. Items for this measure are classified under three headings: (1) Participation in individual and informal group activities, (2) Participation in home duties, and (3) Participation in formally organized group activities.
Each item in Parts 1 and 2 is checked by the student in terms of frequency, using three categories: none or little, some, and much or very much. In Part 3, four categories are employed: no participation, member in name only, participating member, officer or committee chairman.
The Sociality Inventory is a valuable tool for understanding the social and interpersonal skills of college students, as well as their involvement in various activities both within and outside of the academic setting. By assessing participation in home duties, individual and informal group activities, and formally organized group activities, the inventory provides insights into students’ social development, their ability to work collaboratively, and their overall level of engagement with their peers and the wider community.
Test Format:
Parts 1 and 2 employ three response categories (none or little, some, and much or very much). Part 3 utilizes four response categories (no participation, member in name only, participating member, officer or committee chairman).
