De ‘Premature Infant Pain Profile’ (PIPP) is een multi- dimensionele observatielijst om acute pijn bij te vroeggeboren en op tijd geboren neonaten te meten. De lijst bestaat uit fysiologische (hartfrequentie, zuurstofsaturatie) en gedragsmatige parameters (optrekken wenkbrauwen, dichtknijpen oogleden, fronsen van bovenlip, gedragstoestand van het kind). Verder wordt er bij de scoring rekening gehouden met de zwangerschapsduur (4 categorieën). Afhankelijk van de zwangerschapsduur is de maximale score 18-21. Een score van 0 betekent geen pijn
