Maternal Attitude to Pregnancy Instrument (MAPI)

CategoryDetails
DescriptionThe Maternal Attitude to Pregnancy Instrument (MAPI; Blau, Welkowitz, & Cohen, 1964) is a self-rating attitude test developed from a retrospective psychiatric and psychological study of mothers of premature infants. The test aims to predict psychogenic obstetrical complications, such as premature interruptions and other pregnancy issues. The 48 items focus on various aspects of pregnancy, such as the mother’s ability to carry the fetus to term, negative feelings like anxiety and depression, and attitudes toward breastfeeding. The items were rated on a four-point scale, ranging from strongly agree to strongly disagree. The test was also translated into Spanish for use with lower socio-economic Spanish-speaking clinic patients.
