Guilford–Zimmerman Temperament Survey

The Guilford–Zimmerman Temperament Survey (GZTS)

The Guilford–Zimmerman Temperament Survey (GZTS) is a personality test measuring normal personality developed by J. P. Guilford and Wayne S. Zimmerman in 1948. It is a 300-item self-report inventory that measures 10 personality traits:

  • General Activity (G)
  • Restraint (R)
  • Ascendance (A)
  • Sociability (S)
  • Emotional Stability (E)
  • Objectivity (O)
  • Friendliness (F)
  • Thoughtfulness (T)
  • Personal Relations (P)
  • Masculinity (M)

The GZTS was originally developed to measure the personality traits of normal adults, but it has since been used with a variety of populations, including children, adolescents, and college students. The GZTS has been shown to be a reliable and valid measure of personality, and it has been used in a variety of research studies.

The GZTS is scored by summing the number of “yes” responses to each item. The scores for each of the 10 scales are then converted to percentile ranks. The GZTS can be used to assess an individual’s overall personality profile, or it can be used to assess specific personality traits.

The GZTS has been used in a variety of research studies. For example, the GZTS has been used to study the relationship between personality and creativity, the relationship between personality and leadership, and the relationship between personality and health. The GZTS has also been used to assess the effectiveness of personality-based interventions.

The GZTS is a valuable tool for assessing personality. It is a reliable and valid measure of personality, and it has been used in a variety of research studies. The GZTS can be used to assess an individual’s overall personality profile, or it can be used to assess specific personality traits.

Limitations of the GZTS

The GZTS is a relatively old test, and it has not been updated in recent years. As a result, some of the items on the GZTS may be outdated or irrelevant to modern society. Additionally, the GZTS is a self-report inventory, which means that it is subject to bias. Individuals may be tempted to answer the items in a way that they think will make them look good, or they may not be able to accurately assess their own personality traits.

Conclusion

The Guilford–Zimmerman Temperament Survey (GZTS) is a valuable tool for assessing personality. It is a reliable and valid measure of personality, and it has been used in a variety of research studies. However, the GZTS is a relatively old test, and it has some limitations. As a result, it is important to be aware of the limitations of the GZTS before using it to assess personality.
