Antecedents of Collaborative Consumption Tendency–Model

CategoryDetails
DescriptionThe Antecedents of Collaborative Consumption Tendency Model (Aktan & Kethüda, 2024) was designed to examine factors influencing Generation Z consumers’ tendency toward collaborative consumption. Rooted in self-determination and construal-level theories, the model explores psychological and environmental influences on collaborative consumption behaviors. Survey items were adapted from prior studies (e.g., DeChano, 2006; Kim & Jin, 2020; Kim & Yoon, 2021). The model was tested on a sample of Gen Z consumers in Turkey, with results confirming its factor structure, reliability, and validity.
AuthorMurat Aktan; Önder Kethüda
PurposeTo evaluate the antecedents of collaborative consumption tendency among Gen Z consumers.
ConstructCollaborative Consumption Tendency
Instrument TypeInventory/Questionnaire
Test Year2024
FormatItems are rated on a five-point Likert scale, where 1 represents strong disagreement and 5 represents strong agreement.
Administration MethodElectronic
Number of Items20-item measure, plus 17 environmental literacy items.
Factors and SubscalesCollaborative consumption tendency; Collectivism; Psychological distance of climate change; Environmental literacy.
ReliabilityInternal consistency: Cronbach’s alpha and composite reliability values exceeded 0.8 for all constructs.
ValidityConvergent Validity: AVE for all constructs exceeded 0.50, indicating convergent validity. – Discriminant Validity: The square root of AVE values was higher than inter-correlation values, satisfying discriminant validity (Aktan & Anjam, 2022; Hair et al., 2014).
Factor AnalysisExploratory Factor Analysis (EFA): Identified a unidimensional structure for collaborative consumption tendency, explaining 64% of variance (factor loadings: 0.751–0.877; KMO: 0.93; Bartlett’s test: χ2 = 2165.773, df = 28, p < .001). – Common Method Bias: Harman’s single-factor test indicated one factor accounted for 29.41% of variance, below the 50% threshold, reducing concern for common method bias. – Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA): The measurement model included three latent variables with 20 observed variables, plus environmental literacy as a single observed construct. Model fit indices demonstrated strong fit (χ2/df = 1.956; GFI = 0.929; AGFI = 0.909; NFI = 0.934; IFI = 0.967; CFI = 0.966; RMSEA = 0.046).
