Workplace Psychologically Violent Behaviors Instrument – Chinese Version

Description

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines violence as the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, a group, or a community, resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, developmental disorders, or deprivation. This definition is widely recognized internationally. The WHO also defines psychological violence as deliberately acting against individuals or groups, leading to harm in physical, mental, spiritual, moral, and social development. Psychological violence, also known as mental violence, shares the same essence and connotation in both expressions. Highly educated nurses, who possess superior qualifications, often attract jealousy from colleagues, leading to experiences of psychological violence such as exclusion and isolation. An additional interpretation suggests that highly educated nurses have higher career expectations; thus, when clinical realities do not align with these expectations, they may feel bullied to a greater extent. A tendency towards timidity can exacerbate the dynamics of psychological violence by fostering an environment where the aggressor feels empowered. Occurrences of psychological violence from the same department tend to happen during slower periods, while interactions between different departments tend to occur during busier times.
