Thought-Action Fusion Scale – Chinese Version

Description

The Thought-Action Fusion Scale (TAFS), developed by Shafran, Thordarson, Rachman, et al. in 1996, is used to assess the confounding of thoughts and actions. It consists of 19 items, each rated on a scale from 0 to 4. The TAFS includes two subscales: Reality Thought-Action Fusion (the likelihood that thoughts will lead to actions) and Moral Thought-Action Fusion (thoughts equating to actions). Average scores for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients are 9.18 for Reality Thought-Action Fusion and 20.03 for Moral Thought-Action Fusion, while normal individuals score an average of 3.12 and 12.74, respectively.

Administration Method and Scoring

After obtaining permission from the original scale authors, members of the research team independently translated the TAFS and discussed to create an initial draft of the Chinese version. Following standard cross-cultural scale revision methods, the draft was back-translated into English by a graduate student from the English Department of Peking University and a U.S. international student from the Psychology Department to ensure translation accuracy. The final version consists of 19 items, divided into three subscales: Moral (12 items), Likelihood-Self (4 items), and Likelihood-Others (3 items). A 5-point Likert scale is used for scoring, ranging from “完全不同意” (completely disagree) to “完全同意” (completely agree) or 0 to 4 points.
