Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale (GAD-7) – Chinese Version

Description

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is a chronic mental illness characterized by excessive and pervasive worrying about events in life, classified as one type of anxiety disorder. Patients often live in a relatively continuous state of tension, worry, and unease. Recent research on the burden of mental disorders and the use of health services in China indicates that anxiety disorders have the highest prevalence among various mental disorders, with a lifetime prevalence of 7.6% and a 12-month prevalence of 5.0%; GAD specifically has a lifetime prevalence of 0.3% and a 12-month prevalence of 0.2%. More than 2.4 million new patients are added each year domestically.

Emotional regulation refers to the process by which individuals control what emotions they experience and how they express those emotions based on situational demands, which differs from coping strategies that also include addressing non-emotional goals. A meta-analysis reviewing 114 related studies categorized emotional regulation strategies into six types: cognitive reappraisal, problem-solving, acceptance, suppression, avoidance, and rumination. Empirical research consistently suggests that specific strategies can have adaptive or maladaptive effects on emotions, cognition, and social functioning.
