Administration Method and Scoring
The assessment of self-harm behaviors is conducted using the Adolescents Self-Harm Scale, which comprises 19 items, including 18 closed-ended questions and 1 open-ended question. The frequency of self-harm behaviors is calculated alongside the average degree of harm, using a product of the two to determine an individual’s comprehensive self-harm level. The scoring for self-harm frequency includes four levels: 0 次 (0 times), 1 次 (1 time), 2-4 次 (2-4 times), and 5 次以上 (5 times or more), with a scoring range of 0-3. The average harm degree is assessed with five levels: 无 (none), 轻 (mild), 中 (moderate), 重 (severe), and 极重 (extremely severe), scored from 0-4.
Reliability and Validity
The internal consistency reliability of the questionnaire was found to be 0.85, with a correlation coefficient of 0.51 compared to the National Middle School Students’ Self-Harm Questionnaire.
Factors and Subscales
Self-harm behaviors can be categorized based on their functions into self-directed self-harm and other-directed self-harm. The clinical perspective divides self-harm into stereotypic, major, and moderate/superficial self-harm.
