De ‘Leuvense Neonatale Pijnschaal’ is een multidimensioneel meetinstrument om pijn bij neonaten te meten. Het bevat 6 gedragsparameters en 1 fysiologische parameter. Een maximale score van 14 betekent hevige pijn. Bij neonaten die beademd worden is de maximale score 12. Hoe hoger de score hoe hoger de pijn van de baby. Waarschijnlijk ervaart de baby pijn vanaf een score 5.
