Met behulp van de Participation Scale wordt gekeken hoe de patiënt presteert op de onderdelen huishouden, mobiliteit, sociaal-maatschappelijk leven en participatie algemeen. De Participation Scale is een generieke vragenlijst bestaande uit 18 vragen en is gebaseerd op het domein Participatie van de ICF (International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health). De schaal is direct in meerdere talen ontwikkeld en is geschikt gemaakt voor multiculturele toepassing. De oorspronkelijke doelgroep was mensen met lepra of tuberculose.
