Abstract
The Coping with Sleep Problems Scale for Pregnant Women (CSPS-PW; Gokdemir & Yilmaz, 2023) is a self-report assessment designed to evaluate the methods of coping with sleep problems among pregnant women. The scale’s development followed a three-phase process. Initially, 46 items were generated from a literature review and existing instruments. Content and face validity were assessed through expert feedback and a pilot study, which reduced the item count to 36. Permission for evaluation was obtained via email from the lead author. The items were originally written in Turkish. Further validation was conducted using a sample of pregnant women in Turkey, with gestational ages ranging from 8 to 42 weeks. Exploratory factor analysis identified a final set of 18 items distributed across four factors. The reliability (internal consistency and split-half reliability) and criterion validity of the CSPS-PW were reported. The authors noted that despite an adequate sample size for the population studied, the scale could not be readministered due to the pandemic, thus preventing Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and test-retest reliability assessment.

Purpose
The CSPS-PW is a self-report assessment designed to evaluate the methods of coping with sleep problems among pregnant women.
Validity
Criterion Validity: The total Patient Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System® (PROMIS–Sleep Disturbance–Short Form; Yüzeren et al., 2017) score showed no significant correlation with the total CSPS-PW score (r = .079, p = 1.131), its second subdimension (r = .057, p = .273), or its fourth subdimension (r = −.010, p = 0.845) scores.
Content Validity: The Item-Content Validity Index (I-CVI) values for the 36 remaining items in the CSPS-PW ranged from 0.85 to 1, with a Scale-Content Validity Index (S-CVI) of 0.91.
Construct Validity: Evidence for construct validity was supported by the findings from the exploratory factor analysis.
Reliability
Internal Consistency: The Corrected Item-Total Correlation (CITC) values for the 18-item CSPS-PW ranged from .286 to .538. The Cronbach’s alpha for the total CSPS-PW was .799, and it ranged from .614 to .763 for each subdimension.
Split-Half Reliability: The reliability coefficient was 0.734 for the first half of the CSPS-PW and 0.714 for the second half. The Guttman split-half coefficient was 0.625, and the Spearman-Brown coefficient was 0.625.
Factor Analysis
Exploratory Factor Analysis: Using principal component analysis, EFA extracted four factors that collectively accounted for 47.987% of the total variance. The variance explained by each subdimension of the CSPS-PW was 13.401%, 12.119%, 11.298%, and 11.169%, respectively.
