Life satisfaction (生活满意度, LS) is the subjective evaluation that individuals make of their life quality based on their own set standards. Life satisfaction is related to many important psychological states and behaviors, including depression, anxiety, sensitivity in interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, self-awareness, hope, optimism, and perfectionism.

Administration Method and Scoring

The Multidimensional Students’ Life Satisfaction Scale (多维学生生活满意度量表, MSLSS) is currently the most widely used measurement tool for adolescent life satisfaction. The scale is structured into five dimensions: family (家庭), friends (朋友), school (学校), living environment (生活环境), and self (自我), with a total of 40 items. A 6-point Likert scale is used for scoring, where 1 = strongly disagree (十分不同意), 2 = disagree (比较不同意), 3 = somewhat disagree (有些不同意), 4 = somewhat agree (有些同意), 5 = agree (比较同意), and 6 = strongly agree (十分同意). Higher scores indicate greater satisfaction in the respective areas.

Reliability and Validity

The total Cronbach’s α coefficient for the scale is 0.90, while family, friends, school, living environment, and self have coefficients of 0.87, 0.70, 0.82, 0.71, and 0.72, respectively. The scale has demonstrated good validity and reliability in both domestic and international studies.
