Stress Scale for College Students – Chinese Version

Description

The concept of stress refers to an evaluation made by each individual regarding whether a certain stressor can lead to stress, as well as whether the individual has the capacity to cope with that stressor. Past extensive research indicates that the fundamental difference between stress and stressors lies in the subjective nature of stress responses, in contrast to the objective nature of stressors. Each person’s conditions and psychological state during the presence of stressors can influence how they perceive those stressors as stress.

Administration Method and Scoring

The College Student Stress Scale (大学生压力量表) consists of 30 items, categorized into three subscales: 个人烦扰 (Personal Disturbances), 学习烦扰 (Academic Disturbances), and 消极生活事件 (Negative Life Events). Each item is scored on a 4-point scale:
– 0 (没有压力 – No Stress)
– 1 (轻度压力 – Mild Stress)
– 2 (较大压力 – Moderate Stress)
– 3 (很大压力 – Severe Stress)
A lower score indicates less experienced stress, while a higher score indicates greater stress.

Reliability and Validity

The internal consistency is rated as very satisfactory (Cronbach α = 0.91), and the test-retest reliability after 6 months is rated as satisfactory (Cronbach α = 0.78).

Factors and Subscales
