Description

The trend of an aging society in China is increasing, leading to a series of social issues due to the prolonged lifespan of the elderly and changing population structures. With the gradual decline of physical functions and the impact of events such as the passing of friends and family, elderly individuals are prone to feelings of loneliness, decreased sense of value, depression, and solitude. Research shows that good family and social support can reduce the incidence of depression, while peer support and social interaction can alleviate depressive symptoms among the elderly. Family care is an important source of meaning in life for elderly individuals and influences their sense of life significance.

Administration Method and Scoring

The Family Care Index Scale (APGRA) reflects an individual’s subjective feelings about family support across five dimensions: 适应度 (Adaptation), 合作度 (Partnership), 成长度 (Growth), 情感度 (Affection), and 亲密度 (Resolve). It uses a 3-level scoring method: 2 for “often like this,” 1 for “sometimes like this,” and 0 for “almost never like this.”

Reliability and Validity

The retest reliability is reported to be between 0.80 and 0.83, indicating good reliability and validity.
