PurposeTo assess the sources of job satisfaction for employees.
DescriptionThe Source-of-Satisfaction Questionnaire (Friedlander, 1963) consists of 17 items that evaluate an employee’s sources of job satisfaction. Respondents are asked to recall a time they felt exceptionally good about any job and to indicate the extent to which various items contributed to this positive experience. The questionnaire identifies three meaningful factors: Social and Technical Environment (7 items), Intrinsic Self-Actualizing Work Aspects (5 items), and Recognition through Advancement (5 items). These factors correspond to the satisfaction derived from supervision, work group, working conditions, personal development, and recognizable achievement, respectively. Kuder-Richardson reliabilities for the three factors are .82, .72, and .70, respectively, based on a sample of manufacturing employees.
