Checklist of Trait Names scale

CategoryDetails
DescriptionThe Checklist of Trait Names (Davidson & Lang, 1960) was developed as part of a study examining the relationship between children’s perceptions of their teachers’ feelings toward them and their self-perception, academic achievement, and classroom behavior. The checklist uses 35 adjective pairs, with one adjective being the opposite of the other. Students rate which adjective best reflects how they feel their teacher feels about them on a 5-step scale (e.g., “selfish/unselfish,” “obedient/disobedient”). The sample included U.S. students in grades 4 through 6, and the final form used only 30 adjectives. The study confirmed both the reliability and validity of the tool.
