PRION DISEASE

One of a group of neurodegenerative diseases caused by prions, which are self-replicating abnormal proteins in the brain. Symptoms of prion disease include many motor abnormalities including stumbling, lack of coordination, tremors and jerky movements. Some of the more well-known human varieties include Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and Gerstmann-Straussler-Scheinker syndrome.
