| Description | The Rey 15-Item Memory Test (RMT, Rey I; Rey, 1964) is used to detect malingering of memory impairment. It consists of 5 rows of 3 characters each on a card (A B C, 1 2 3, a b c, ○ □ ∆, I II III). Respondents are shown the card for 10 seconds and told to study it carefully in order to remember as many items as possible. The test is designed to appear very difficult to detect malingering, as patients with impairment can perform it easily, while malingerers will tend to recall fewer items. This enables the identification of individuals exaggerating memory impairments. A meta-analysis found the RMT demonstrated low sensitivity but excellent specificity. |
