De Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life Scale (FIQL) wordt gehanteerd om in kaart te brengen welke problemen ongewenst ontlastingverlies met zich meebrengt. Het is een kwaliteit van leven instrument, specifiek voor patiΓ«nten met fecale incontinentie (FI), dat beoogt de impact van behandelen te beoordelen. De FIQL bestaat uit vier subschalen met in totaal 29 items: Leefstijl (10 items), Coping/Gedrag (9 items), Depressie/Zelfperceptie (7 items) en Schaamte (3 items). Er zijn 4 antwoordmogelijkheden, oplopend van score 1 tot 4, waarbij 1 wordt gekenmerkt door een lage levenskwaliteit en 4 wordt gekenmerkt door een hoge levenskwaliteit.
