| Description | The Associative Recall Task (Asch, Ceraso, & Heimer, 1960) assesses recall ability for the form and mode of visual stimuli. Developed as part of a study on how perceptual stimulus characteristics affect association formation, the test uses two types of stimuli: unitary (form and mode combined, e.g., squiggles shaped like a rectangle) and non-unitary (form and mode presented separately, e.g., a solid-line rectangle next to squiggles). Stimuli are drawn in black pencil on white cards (4 x 6 inches) and shown for four seconds each. Respondents later reproduce the figures from memory after a three-minute delay. Scoring involves one point for correctly recalling form or mode and two points for recalling both correctly. Joint recall is scored separately as correct (+) or incorrect (-). |
