ACHONDROPLASIA

noun. A kind of autosomal dominant dwarfism where skeletal pieces stemming from cartilage grow at a reduced pace compared to the skeletal pieces grown from connective tissues. In particular, this leads to larger skulls and an awkwardly large and high forehead. Motor skills of babies with this malformation might be sluggish, however in most cases cognitive aptitude is on par with peers not having this disorder. Commonly referred to as achondroplastic dwarfism.

ACHONDROPLASIA: “Achondroplasia has unfortunately plagued two of the Millers’ four children.”
