| Description | The Role Discrepancy Index (RD Index; Greer, 1961) was developed to measure the extent to which a squad leader (SL) is perceived as behaving according to a squad member’s ideal. In this 13-item measure, respondents first indicate how an SL should behave for each item. Alternatives are presented in five steps ranging from “never” to “always” and from “none” to “a lot.” After responding to the 13th item, the same questions are asked again regarding the squad member’s perception of their own SL’s behavior. The sum of discrepancies between actual and ideal responses serves as an index of the extent to which a squad member’s needs are not being satisfied by the SL’s role behaviors. |
