Marriage Role Questionnaire

CategoryDetails
DescriptionThe Marriage Role Questionnaire (Tharp, 1963) assesses marriage-role expectations and perceived enactments, developed as part of a study on marital roles. The 98-item instrument includes Likert-type scales and explores dimensions such as External Relations, Internal Instrumentality, Division of Responsibility, Sexuality, and Solidarity. Items were derived from prior research and expert input. The questionnaire was administered to US couples married for an average of 17 years. It has also been used in research linking marriage dimensions and personality (Barton & Cattell, 1972). No reliability or validity data are provided.
