Escala de Atitudes Frente à Pílula do Dia Seguinte (FAMPS, EAFPDS)

Abstract

The Escala de Atitudes Frente à Pílula do Dia Seguinte (EAFPDS), also known as the Female Attitudes Toward the Morning-After Pill Scale (FAMPS), was developed by Passos et al. (2023) to measure the attitudes of Brazilian women towards the morning-after pill. The development process began with an initial pool of 18 items, formulated in Brazilian Portuguese, which were derived from a comprehensive literature review on both positive and negative attitudes concerning the morning-after pill. These items underwent evaluation by a panel of expert judges, leading to the removal of 5 items. Following a successful piloting phase, the refined measure was administered to a sample of university women in Brazil. An exploratory factor analysis was conducted, which resulted in a final instrument with a two-factor structure composed of 7 items. The study also reported on the reliability of the resulting scale.

Purpose

The purpose of this measure is to assess female attitudes toward the morning-after pill.

Construct

Female Attitudes toward the Morning-after Pill

Validity

No data is Available

Reliability

The internal consistency of the scale was assessed, revealing Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.62 for the Safety factor and 0.67 for the Anxiety factor. The homogeneity for these factors was 0.29 and 0.41, respectively. The final 7-item structure of the scale demonstrated a total Cronbach’s Alpha (α) of 0.66.

Factor Analysis

An Exploratory Factor Analysis was performed. During this analysis, only items presenting a factorial load of |≥ 0.37| were retained for the final scale. The scree plot indicated the suitability of a two-factor solution. Consequently, a new factor analysis was executed, constraining the extraction to two factors. This process confirmed the final scale structure, which consists of 2 factors and a total of 7 items.
