| Description | The Differential Personality Inventory–Form L (DPI; Jackson & Messick, 1962) is an inventory designed to measure personality traits indicative of psychopathology. This 300-item tool contains 15 scales: 12 assess aspects of psychopathology, including Cynicism (e.g., “Most people are crooked.”), Depression (e.g., “I always feel insignificant.”), Familial Discord (e.g., “Some members of my family make my blood boil.”), Health Concern, Hostility, Impulsivity, Irritability, Neurotic Disorganization, Psychotic Tendencies, Rebelliousness, Socially Deviant Attitudes, and Somatic Complaints. The remaining 3 scales measure validity: Defensiveness, Desirability, and Infrequency. The DPI was constructed using a sequential strategy to ensure scale homogeneity and minimize response bias. It has shown internal consistency, convergent validity, and discriminant validity (Jackson & Carlson, 1969). |
