Abstract
The Escala de Inteligência Emocional de Líderes (EIEL), which translates to the Leader Emotional Intelligence Scale (LEIS), is an instrument developed by Almeida et al. (2023) to measure four specific abilities related to emotional intelligence. The theoretical foundation for the EIEL’s construction and validation process is the conception of emotional intelligence as a trait, which integrates both intelligence abilities and personality attributes, following the model proposed by Petrides and collaborators (2016). The development process for the initial items demonstrated substantial evidence of content validity. This was confirmed by highly favorable agreement indices from a panel of five expert judges (RVC = 1) and a group of 40 lay judges (RVC ≥ 0.900). Following this validation, the resulting measure was administered to a sample of Brazilian leaders. A subsequent factor analysis refined the instrument to a final version of 48 items, which are structured across four distinct dimensions. The study also provided comprehensive results supporting the scale’s reliability and validity.

Purpose
The primary objective of the Leader Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIEL) is to conduct an assessment of four key emotional intelligence abilities. These abilities include emotionality, self-control, sociability, and overall well-being.
Construct
The instrument is designed to measure constructs related to Emotional Intelligence and Leadership.
Validity
The validity of the measure was primarily established through factorial validity. The results obtained from the factor analysis provide strong support for the structural validity of the instrument, confirming that it accurately measures the intended underlying constructs.
Reliability
The internal consistency of the scale was evaluated using both Cronbach’s alpha and omega coefficients. The results indicated high internal consistency for several factors: Emotionality (α = 0.858; Ω = 0.859), Self-Control (α = 0.860; Ω = 0.859), and Sociability (α = 0.851; Ω = 0.854), all of which had values greater than 0.8. The Well-Being factor demonstrated good consistency with values of α = 0.777 and Ω = 0.777. For the total scale, the overall alpha and omega coefficients were calculated to be α = 0.810 and Ω = 0.738, respectively.
Factor Analysis
The study employed both Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). The initial EFA resulted in a four-factor solution that accounted for 34.5% of the total variance. This structure was subsequently confirmed by the CFA, which yielded the following fit indices: χ²(gl) = 1570,442* (1121), χ²/gl = 1.40, CFI = 0.970, GFI = 0.968, TLI = 0.067, SRMR = 0.035, and RMSEA (90% CI) = (0.039 – 0.031).
Instrument
Test Type: This is an original Inventory/Questionnaire.
Format: The instrument consists of items that are rated on a five-point Likert-type format, with responses ranging from 1 (I totally disagree) to 5 (I totally agree). The test is administered electronically.
Language Available: The scale is available in Portuguese.
Population Group: The intended population for this scale is human, including both male and female participants.
Age Group: This scale is designed for use with adults, defined as individuals aged 18 years and older.
Population Details: The validation study was conducted with a sample of Emotional Intelligence Leaders located in Brazil.
Test Methodology: The development and validation of the scale involved rigorous methodological approaches, including evaluations of Test Validity, Content Validity, Test Reliability, and Internal Consistency. Furthermore, the psychometric properties were examined using Factor Analysis, which included both Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Exploratory Factor Analysis.
